Happy Reading,

Growing up dinner was always a sit down and early. There were 6 kids and our parents…always loud and lively!
There were many happy times around mom’s kitchen table besides meals but spring always stands out. We always gathered there to dye our eggs, because mom enjoyed it so. The smell of vinegar, newspaper covering the table top, every black or dark blue mug pulled out, cardboard egg cartons saved so the dyes don’t pool in the bottom and smear, a white crayon, bowls of hard-cooked eggs, stickers, those useless wire dippers, my sister, daughter, niece, mom and I all creating that year’s masterpieces. Fancy swirls one year, sprinkles another, even a marbleized pattern But always basic dyes to start worth; red, blue, yellow, orange, purple and green.
My favorite table time memories was eating at my Aunt’s house with her 4 sons, my parents, my sister when we
were really young. My Aunt always set a formal table and I had to wear a white pinafore and wear little white
gloves. It was a challenge but fun trying to remember how to set the table with all the spoons and forks we had to learn to use but we all learn etiquette at dinner.
My favorite memories around the table are my family together at the table enjoying our favorite meals that my husband cooked! He was a great home cook!
I grew up in a large family. Dinner time was always a time of sharing and great conversation.
Around the kitchen table I learned about grown-ups and how they viewed the world. A real good education for a child.
One of my favorite around the table memories are growing up – if one kid was grumpy then my parents would say “let’s all look at (whoever was grumpy)” and we would all do it. The person couldn’t help but laugh or talk and then it usually made for fun family meals. We do that to our kids now. 🙂
I think the memory that stands out the most is going to my Aunt and Uncle’s house every Sunday. They had 5 kids and it was just my sister and I. That table was always full of laughter and lots of love. A great feeling for a child to grow up with.
One of my favorite memories was during the holidays when all of my family, there were 6 living in my house and then my extended family and family friends that were like family that we would usually having about 20 people at the table, but it was loud and enjoyable. I miss those days since most of the older generation is gone.
One of my favorite memories is summer vacation at our cottage. Almost every weekend we had 20 relatives and friends seated around a large rectangular table. Almost all of those relatives are gone now but my wonderful memories will live forever.
We always ate together there was 6 of us plus our parents. We always had to tell one thing that we learned that day and something that made us happy.
