The food doesn’t matter so much but of course it’s not a picnic without corn on the cob, coleslaw, potato salad, and all those other typical side items.
Amanda,
I love corn on the cob: steamed, roasted, brushed with soy sauce and honey. YUM!
Linda
I’m from New Mexico, so we eat a lot of spicy food. For my Fourth of July picnic, I’d have Frito Pie! It’s a unique local dish, sort of like a taco salad; all the usual taco fixings( lettuce, tomato, cheese, beans, mixed with Frito corn chips, & most importantly, green chile. That last ingredient is a MUST (we put green chile in EVERYTHING.). I know it sounds weird, but it’s delicious!. It usually includes taco meat, but I’m a vegetarian, so I leave it off. I would also have some locally roasted coffee (we have great coffee here!), and biscochitos, aka Mexican wedding cookies for dessert.
Joy Sheldon,
This sounds really yummy–minus the heat. I can handle flavor, but I’m a lightweight chili girl. However, good home churned ice cream will help cure my heat.
Smiles,
Linda
I would hot dogs, hamburgers, mac & potato salad. And watermelon
Cynthia,
Who doesn’t love a good ole’ hot dog? I’m a big fan, especially with chili, cheese, finely diced onion, and a bit of mustard. I’ll take 2, please.
Smiles,
Linda
We love the fried chicken, potato salad, brownies, cookies, watermelon, tea, beer and mac and cheese.
Lori,
Fried Chicken! Yes! I think in one of my books, I need to have a fried chicken contest. Then host a real one!
Smiles,
Linda
I have never been on a picnic so I guess I would like the usual hambers, hotdogs, pototo salad, baked beans, chips,. sodas make some cupcakes for dessert.
Debra,
Never been on a picnic? Oh my! When I lived in Florida, it was always sooo hot, so my husband and I would crank the air conditioner down real low, put a fire on in the gas fireplace, spread a blanket on the floor in front of the fire, and then have a picnic. I had a basket, Usually, inside were chips and dip, sandwiches, fruit, and ice cream.
Maybe give it a try sometime? Invite a few friends over for a picnic inside.
Smiles,
Linda
At our 4th of July picnic, we have hot dogs, potato salad, tamales and beans. Here in the Arizona desert, we usually have some type of Mexican food. We usually have Brownies for dessert.
Joy I,

Linda

I love to picnic in the backyard. We have hamburgers, hotdogs, tuna macaroni salad, potato salad and dump cake.
Linda,
I haven’t made tuna macaroni salad in a very long time. Now my mouth is watering for some. Look what you started.
Smiles,
Linda
Well, the most fun I had was a picnic with chicken livers and watermelon and lots of ice tea
Susan,
How do you like your livers prepared? I like mine deep fried and served with Red Beans and Rice.
Of course, I love watermelon!
Smiles,
Linda
You actually wouldn’t find anything in my picnic basket. I’m not a fan of picnics at all. I prefer my eating indoors without the bugs, the dust or the heat.
Mary,
You can still make it a picnic. We do it at least once a year. In front of the fireplace, on a blanket, with sounds of the surf playing in the background.
Smiles,
Linda
My picnic basket would include all my favorites. Cold fried chicken, potato salad (without mustard), fresh blueberry and corn muffins with both butter and honey to put on them. There would also be fresh strawberries and blueberries, watermelon slices and either an apple crisp or apple pie for dessert. Depending on the company there might be Champagne or sparkling cider as well as fresh homemade lemonade.
Now that you have made me hungry it is time for a snack.
Denise,
And you’ll be having your picnic where? I’ll bring the champagne. That’s my kind of picnic!
Smiles,
Linda
My idea for a Fourth of July picnic would be hot dogs, hamburgers, watermelon, potato salad, macaroni salad, chips, and iced cold tea!!!
Linda Herold,
It sounds perfect!
Smiles,
Linda Joyce
